Where to see the Mountain Gorillas?
Volcanoes National Park
Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda
The Volcanoes national park lies along the Virunga Mountains, with 8 ancient volcanoes, and also home to the famous mountain gorillas
Bwindi Impenetrable forest park
Bwindi Impenetrable forest
One of Uganda’s oldest and most biologically diverse rain forests, which dates back over 25,000 years and contains almost 400 species of plants. More famously, this “impenetrable forest” also protects an estimated 400+ mountain gorillas – roughly half of the world’s population
BOOKING A GORILLA PERMIT
Visitors coming to enjoy gorilla trekking in both Uganda & Rwanda are advised to book for the tracking permits in advance. Only a limited number of permits are given out per day and booking in advance helps avoid disappointments. Recently, the Uganda wildlife authority stopped the selling of permits from tracking centers and are currently being sold at their reservations office in Kamokya, Kampala. You can book for your gorilla permits through Primate World Safaris to enjoy an amazing gorilla safari.
WHERE TO STAY? BEST ACCOMMODATION FOR YOUR GORILLA SAFARIS
There are a number of safari lodges situated near Bwindi forest and the volcanoes park in Rwanda. Others are situated within the park and most are built with care to the environment. Common materials used include bamboo, wood and grass. Solar energy is also common and helps in powering up the facilities at night to make them look outstanding. You will not find things like AC’s (air conditioners) in these places, but a traditional round sitting place with fire at night to get you warm would be suitable. Visitors are also encouraged to carry along mosquito repellant since most of these lodges would not guarantee 100% mosquito-free rooms. However they have been given mosquito nets to prevent the insects from getting close while asleep.
GORILLA SAFARIS PRICE
The price of the gorilla safaris normally varies from the type of tour you are opting for. The low cost gorilla safaris involve budget accommodation or group tours while the high-end tours will take you to Luxury accommodation facilities. Other services like car hire, driver/guide, airport pickups and transfers are a constant irrespective of the type of tour.
THE GORILLA TREKKING ACTIVITY
It’s an unforgettable experience, you will live to tell and remember. Most of the first time visitors in Africa have rated this activity excellent and are willing to come back. Others have dedicated their lives in protecting the endangered gorillas and died while doing this like the famous American zoologist – Dian fossey. She lived most of her life and dedicated it to saving the endangered species in Volcanoes national park, Rwanda.
