Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – The Land of a Thousand Hills

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be greeted by your professional safari guide and transferred to your hotel. Kigali is Rwanda’s vibrant financial and cultural hub, known for its meandering boulevards and lush green hillsides. Spend your evening relaxing and preparing for the mountain adventure ahead.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Start your day with a somber but inspiring visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a vital site for understanding Rwanda’s journey of renewal. Afterward, begin your 3-hour journey to the North.

Travel Note: The drive to Musanze (Volcanoes NP) offers spectacular views of the rolling highlands. We include a stop at the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, a state-of-the-art conservation center, to provide you with scientific context before your trek.

Day 3: The Gorilla Trekking Experience

After an early breakfast and a traditional Rwandan coffee at the park headquarters, you will be assigned to one of the 10 habituated gorilla families. Accompanied by expert trackers and scouts, you will venture into the forest.

The trek can last from 30 minutes to several hours, depending on the gorillas’ location. Once found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing these majestic primates in their natural habitat, a humbling experience that creates a lifelong commitment to conservation.

Day 4: Golden Monkey Tracking & Departure

After the trek, enjoy a final scenic drive back to Kigali, arriving in time for your evening departure flight.
