TOUR DESCRIPTION

Rwanda is a small country but with a rich Savannah, many lakes and amazing wildlife. This Rwanda activity holiday will take you to experience life in Kigali city by visiting one of the popular attractions, the Genocide Memorial center, which is a place for remembrance for lives lost during the ‘1994 Rwanda genocide’. This place hosts tens of thousands of international & regional tourists every year. The Journey continues to Nyungwe forest with abundant flora & fauna and a number of primate species. Chimpanzee tracking is the most common activity here, others are birding and canopy walks. You will also visit a small town of Musanze before you hike to the Dian fossey grave site.

On this trip you will also visit the mountain gorillas in Bwindi forest, Uganda before going to relax at Lake Bunyonyi. You will also visit the communities around the lake but especially the Batwa people.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali airport

Meet and greet at Kigali International Airport. Transfer to your accommodation. After lunch, Visit the Genocide Memorial Center.

Day 2: Visit Nyungwe forest park

Today, you will set off towards the famous Nyungwe Forest, one of the largest forests in East and Central Africa. The forest is abundant with flora and fauna including 13 primate species from colobus monkeys, mangabeys, blue monkeys and, of course, our cousins the chimpanzees. Nyungwe Forest is also a famous location for birders. With about 310 recorded bird species, 26 of which are endemic, this is one of the most important – and still little known – bird-watching destinations in Africa. You’ll be staying at a very nice lodge located on top of a small hill near Nyungwe Forest.

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking

After a very early morning start, you shall proceed to the chimpanzee tracking trail in either the Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections. The total population between the two groups is a healthy 80 individuals. This exciting up-close encounter with human’s closest relative you will not soon forget. After Lunch, drive to the town of Musanze close to the Virunga Volcano range. This beautiful area represents the gateway to the gorilla tracking. You stay at Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge situated on the edge of the town. The spacious rooms give you a homely feeling. In the evening, enjoy a camp fire and some entertainment from some local dance groups.

Day 4: Dian Fossey grave hike tour

Rise early! From the lodge, you drive into the park about 30 minutes to the Office Rwandais du Tourisme et Des Parc Nationaux (ORTPN). Today you will be visiting the Dian Fossey Grave. After which you drive towards Uganda border, cross the border and drive to Bwindi, Nkuringo Region.

Day 5: Bwindi gorilla trekking

Early morning after breakfast, you will get ready to go encounter the mountain gorillas in the jungles of Bwindi. The forest is quite thick but your guide will lead you through in a group of 8 tourists. Each group of tourists is assigned a gorilla family, and Bwindi has about 9 of them. This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting activities that tourists have truly memorable. Your trekking in the forest will take around 2 to 7 hours depending on how far the gorillas might have moved. Bwindi has a number of other residents, which include chimpanzees, birds, butterflies and others. Your group is given 1 hour with the gorillas, and be ready with your cameras to take the action. After the trekking, you will transfer back to the lodge.

Day 6: Community visits in Lake Bunyonyi

After Breakfast, community visit and then transfer to Lake Bunyonyi which is surrounded by terraced hills. You will have packed Lunch and can always stop depending on the time for lunch.

Day 7: Batwa experience

Today you enjoy Bilharzia – free swimming, sunbathing or hill climbing. Also Visit the Batwa Community on the Islands of Lake Bunyonyi.

Day 8: Transfer to Entebbe

After breakfast you continue your drive to Entebbe (Airport). Of course, you stop at the equator, the best place for your souvenir shopping. Your driver/guide will bring you to Entebbe Airport in time for your flight. This marks the end of your holiday.
