Morning: Faith and History
Your guide will pick you up from your residence or hotel at 8:00 AM to beat the city’s early traffic. The tour begins at the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, a site of profound religious significance where 22 martyrs were executed in 1886. Next, you will drive to the tranquil Baha’i Temple on Kikaya Hill, set in beautiful gardens with a panoramic view of the city. Before lunch, explore the Uganda Museum, which houses the country’s finest ethnological and natural-historical exhibits.
Lunch: A Taste of Kampala
Enjoy a sumptuous lunch at a top local restaurant. We recommend trying a traditional Luwombo (stew steamed in banana leaves) to get a true taste of Buganda’s culinary heritage.
Afternoon: Royalty and Grandeur
Post-lunch, drive to Kasubi Hill to visit the Kasubi Tombs, the burial grounds of the Buganda Kings. Proceed to the Kabaka’s Palace in Mengo to learn about the kingdom’s intricate history and see the haunting Idi Amin torture chambers.
The final major stop is the Gaddafi Mosque (Uganda National Mosque) in Old Kampala. Climbing its minaret offers the most iconic 360-degree view of Kampala’s sprawling hills. If time permits, we will wind down with a walk through the Independence Monument and a stop at the Crafts Village for souvenir shopping.
