In this blog, we feature two of the most famous and top destinations in Uganda rated excellent by visitors. We’ll share some of the reasons why you need to choose either of these to be on your next Uganda Safari.
Uganda is gifted with over 10 national parks and wildlife reserves, located in different parts of the Country, with abundant wildlife, bird-life and outstanding features. Lakes, Rivers, Mountains, valleys, hills and more all in this land locked country, with a touch of green in most areas.
Why Queen Elizabeth national park is among the top destinations
QENP – located in western Uganda in the backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains is Uganda’s second largest and also known to be the most famous (Medley of Wonders). Every year thousands of tourists come here to explore the different parts of the park and enjoy a variety of experiences. The most interesting ones include Game viewing, Bird watching, Launch trips, cultural tourism, nature trails and chimpanzee tracking.
Queen has featured all kinds of visitors including Students, Tourists, Ugandan nationals, East Africans and other travelers from across the world. A 3 days Safari in this park will get you close enough to catch all the wildlife action. Famous attractions in this park include the Kazinga channel, Mweya, Kyambura gorge (for chimpanzees), explosion craters and the Ishasha tree climbing lions.
While in this park, visitors can enjoy early morning game drives rewarding you with beautiful sunsets and some of the amazing wildlife species like Kobs, Antelopes, Lions, Elephants, Buffaloes and more. Queen Elizabeth national park has also one of the most outstanding and beautifully constructed safari lodges in Uganda. These lodges have contributed much to having the visitors enjoy exciting and memorable days in Uganda.
The park is easily accessed from the capital – Kampala, with two routes, one via Mbarara & bushenyi towns and the other via Fort portal, Kibale & Kasese.
Why Murchison falls National Park is among the top destinations
The Murchison falls park, located in north western Uganda is currently the oldest & biggest wildlife park in Uganda. Spanning over 3,840 km² this stunning attraction hosts of 76 mammals and 451 bird species. The Murchison falls are an amazing sight once here and taking a launch trip downstream the Nile is arguably one of the best ways to enjoy the highlights of your Uganda Safari.
Visitors who have been to Murchison Park are highly satisfied with their experiences according to the reviews from Google & Trip-Advisor. Apart from the launch trips, you can also enjoy game drives, sport fishing, hiking and birding activities.
Some of the common animals seen here include Giraffes, Buffaloes, Lions, Leopards, Antelopes, Uganda Kobs, elephants, warthogs, hyenas and many others.
This park also has some of the best lodges from Budget to Luxury type, making it a perfect destination for every kind of traveler. Recently American Celebrities Kanye West Kim Kardashian West visited Uganda for their first time and stayed at the luxurious Chobe safari Lodge in Murchison. They had a chance to explore different parts of the national park & loved the green environment in Uganda.
Murchison Park can also be easily accessed from Kampala, via Hoima – Masindi route or a flight from Kajjansi airfield or Entebbe to Pakuba Airfield – Murchison.
Queen vs. Murchison
Choosing a safari with one of these two fantastic top destinations in Uganda, is a right choice but you wouldn’t want to miss out on the experiences on the other side. Most travelers have opted to take longer days on their tours i.e. 8 days, 10 days, 15 days etc. to have a chance of exploring most of these places. A shorter tour would be 3 days and this would take you to only one of these parks. Uganda gifted with nature also has one of the major attractions on the continent – the Mountain Gorillas found in the impenetrable Bwindi forests. Gorilla Trekking has been one of the best highlights for most travelers in Uganda but every wildlife experience is truly rewarding on its own.
To be honest, you will obviously find it hard choosing to tour one of these top destinations unless your stay is less than 5 days. We’d recommend an 8 days Safari or longer days to tour all these places & have a chance to see the beauty that lies within the pearl of Africa.
